Love Under The Sea
Love Under The Sea
Chapter 1
Deep in the ocean there was a long forgotten kingdom called Aquatica. It was a beautiful place, a large golden palace sat at the centre of the kingdom, where the royal family resided. Very special people resided in Aquatica, mermaids and mermen alike lived there, as well as sea creatures. King Argon and Queen Una were the proud rulers of Aquatica for many years, they had two children both boys. The older was named Dover, and the younger was named Cyrus. As the princes to the king and queen, a lot was expected of the boys as they grew older. Now that Dover is 18 and Cyrus is 16, they were expected to set an example for the kingdom. Considering Dover is of age to be on the throne, he will become the new king. Aquatica hasn't had a king since their father tragically passed away, it was an accident he was out swimming with his friends when all of a sudden this sword fish came out of noware, and stabbed him in the chest. The family was devastated, they knew they had to keep the kingdom running, so with Queen Una and her two sons they helped keep King Argon's memory alive by spreading his good name, and doing anything they could to help people.
Unfortunatley Queen Una was worried about her oldest son, Dover had a temper on him. He was mean, cruel, and violent at times. Especially to his younger brother. Anytime they were called to help a sea creature in need, Dover would make a nasty comment and opted to stay home. Regardless of his vicious behavior, Queen Una was very proud of her youngest son Cyrus. Cyrus was of average build, had soft brown hair, blue eyes, and a light blue tail. He also had a small dagger that was turned into a necklace around his neck. When Cyrus was four years old, his father gave him the daggar necklace as a protection. You see the daggar wasn't an ordinary daggar, it was laced with a protection spell whoever wears it will be protected from any harm. Cyrus wore his daggar proudly, and it was a way to remember his father. Now with coronation just on the hirisen, Cyrus is feeling the pressure of being the kingdom's last hope for a better future. And the most concerning of all, Cyrus is hiding a part of himself that could cost him the throne and his life.
Present Day
It was a beautiful morning in the ocean, the reflection of blue sky from the surface made the water sparkle, and it was the perfect temperature. Cyrus was just starting to wake up for the day, he strectched out on his kelp bed flexing his tail to warm it up. He swam over to his mirror and fixed his hair and put on his daggar. "good morning father." Cyrus said softly caressing the small weapon that hung from his neck. When Cyrus entered the dining room, he was met with his mother and brother seated around the table with a fine selection of ocean delicacies. "good morning mother, good morning Dover" Cyrus greeted before taking his seat. "good morning sweet heart." Queen Una said with a smile. "yeah whatever" Dover said with an eye roll. Cyrus and his brother have never gotten along, Dover liked to pick on him whenever he could. "so any plans this morning boys?" Queen Una asked her sons. "Well I'm hanging out with Ursa today, we're gonna go explore the outskirts of the kingdom!" Cyrus said excitedly. Ursa was Cyrus's best friend, she's a hammerhead shark with a big personality. "That sounds fun, just be careful Cyrus there's some sketchy creatures lurking in the outskirts" Queen Una warned. "I'll be careful mother" Cyrus said. "Sounds boring, you're a prince Cyrus shouldn't you do something more glamorous with your time?" Dover said with a smirk. "Just because you like to lounge around the castle doesn't mean I do" Cyrus clapped back crossing his arms pleased with himself. "Alright boys that's enough" their mother said sternly. After breakfast was finished Cyrus headed off into the ocean to meet up with Ursa.
"Cy! Over here!" Ursa said excitedly waving her fin at him. "Hey Ursa!" Cyrus embraced his best friend with a hug. "I'm so excited for our trip to the outskirts!" Ursa squeaked. "hehe me too bestie, come on!" As the pair swam to the gate of the kingdom, Cyrus was thinking about things. For as long as he could remember Cyrus had always felt different than other mermen. He was told that when the time came he would have to marry. His mother had always said when e finds the right mermaid to marry, but Cyrus always thought that was strange to him. Cyrus didn't like mermaids in the romantic sense like he was "supposed" to. Cyrus liked mermen, and because of this if anyone in the kingdom found out he could be killed. The only one who knew about this side of him was Ursa, and she swore she wouldn't tell anyone. Still it was a hard thing to keep secret, especially with the coronation coming up in a few months. They eventually made it to the gate, Cyrus unlocked the door and the pair swam out into the open sea. "wow! I never knew the ocean was so big!" Ursa said scanning their new surroundings. "I know, it's like we're in another dimension!" Cyrus commented. As the swam Ursa noticed something off in the distance, "hey Cy I think there's someone over there" She said pointing out to sea. "oh yeah" "Let's go say hi!" Before he knew what was happening Ursa was swimming over to person in a shaky excited buzz. "Ursa wait! They might be skittish, here let's hide behind this kelp and get a better look." Ursa and Cyrus ducked behind a bundle of kelp, and peaked out to see the person. He was a merman about Cyrus's age, he had messy black hair, a black and red tail, chiseled features, eye paint around his face, and spiked coral braceletes. He was also playing a piano made out of a fish skeleton, and he was singing! You don't know me, if you did then you would think I'm a freak, you don't know what it's like to feel weak. The lyrics were so sad, but the boy had a beautiful voice. Cyrus inched closer, to try to see the boys eyes, he had a strand of black hair covering one of them but he saw the other one. His eyes were the most vibrant shade of green Cyrus had ever seen, in fact Cyrus thought the boy was absoulutely breathtaking. "Cyrus come on this is boring, let's go find something else to do" Ursa said nuging her friend in the back. "just a sec I want to listen a bit longer" He said slowly swimming toward the boy.
When the song was over, the boy swam away from the piano and sat down on a rock. Cyrus wanted to introduce himself, so he swam up next to him. "hi" he said with a smile. The boy was startled not expecting Cyrus to appear in front of him like that. "I heard you play, you're really good" The boy was moving his eyes all over the place, and he started shaking. "I didn't mean to scare you, I just thought your song was really moving" The boy continued to remain frozen, and unspeaking. Then tears started to roll down the boys face. Cyrus didn't know what to do, he didn't understand what was happening. Suddenly a taller person swam over to the boys and placed a hand on the boys shoulder. "Astra look at me, it's okay honey I'm right here" The person said. "oh hello there, I'm Luna Astra's older sister" she said holding out her hand to shake with Cyrus. "hi, um is he okay?" Cyrus asked concered for the boy. "he will be, Astra has severe social anxiety, people he doesn't know terrify him, he has pretty severe panick attacks from it. "Astra try to breathe okay, I'm right here breathe with me" Astra was really struggling, the boy went pale and threw up over the side of the rock. "oh honey, okay I should get him home but it was nice to meet you Cyrus" Luna said carrying Astra back to the house.
That night Cyrus couldn't stop thinking about Astra, he was so beautiful yet he was so scared to talk to Cyrus. All he wanted to do was hug the poor boy, he needed to see him again even if they don't say a word to each other Cyrus wanted to get to know him.
