Hey everybody! Welcome back to fangirl confessions! For one of my class assignments I needed to do some research on a banned book. I picked the book Two Boys Kissing. When I looked up the reasons it was banned and challenged, I was appalled. The reasons were not valid, they are the most ridiculous reasons: Public display of affection, and the only reason for this was because the cover of the book has a picture of two guys kissing. They would never had said anything if a man and woman were on the cover. Jerks! Another reason was promoting homosexuality, excuse me but that is not a valid reason for banning a book! That's like banning a book because the cover is green, or has rips on it. The actual reasons why people ban books like this, is because they don't know anything about the subject or they are too stubborn to try to learn about it. I feel like the least you can do is educate yourself about the LGBTQ+ community, I know I have learned so much and I have a better understanding of it. I am proud to call myself an ally, and I will do anything I can to help in the fight for more acceptance. The fact that books like this are being banned, is because those ignorant people can't or refuse to accept love in that way. Well news flash to you ignorant people, the people mentioned in Two Boys Kissing, and many of other books like this aren't going anywhere. They have just as much right to be in libraries, schools, and book stores as much as other book out there. I have read a little bit of this book, and it is a wonderful read. It's deep, meaningful, and could help someone like the boys on the cover to find out who they are. When you ban books, you are depriving someone of a great read, and learning a valuable lesson about tolerance. Now if you ignorant people could get your heads out from under the rocks where you live, slap some compassion and understanding into yourself, pick up a banned book or a book about love. Because that is what this book is about, it's about love just like any other. Thank you.
