 Hospital Bells

It was a crisp December morning. Xanthous and Elrik were all snuggled up in bed together, just relaxing in the warmth before they have to get up and start the day. As dawn was breaking, Xanthous slowly opened his eyes, and looked down at his sleeping boyfriend. Elrik had his head on Xanthous's chest, sleeping away oblivious to Xanthous watching him. "he's so cute when he's sleeping." Xanthous thought as he softly stroked Elrik's hair. "How did I get to be so lucky?" He thought again, smiling down at the boy he loves. When Elrik finally awoke, he saw Xanthous staring at him and smiled warmly. "Hey beautiful, good morning." Elrik said sitting up. "Good morning babe, did you sleep well?" "yes, thank you. You're really warm." Xanthous chuckled at that, and pulled Elrik closer to him. "well yeah, I have fire powers of course I'm warm." Xanthous replied with a cheeky grin on his face. "hehe, I know that babe. I just meant you're warm in a comfortable and safe way." Elrik said reaching up to kiss Xanthous on the lips. Every time they kiss Xanthous feels butterflies in his stomach, and his face turns red. It was magical when Elrik kissed him. But then suddenly Xanthous started to cough uncontrollably, it was a rattling, barking cough. Elrik looked concerned as Xanthous coughed, and held him until it passed. Slowly rubbing his back. When the coughing fit passed Xanthous was really out of breath, and held his chest in pain. "are you okay babe? That looked like it hurt." Elrik said worried for his boyfriend. "I don't know what happened, I just really had to cough all of a sudden." Xanthous said sinking into Elrik's arms. Elrik felt Xanthous's forehead and frowned. "Xan you're burning up. This isn't a normal fever, something's really wrong." Elrik said with concern edged deeply in his voice. "I do feel pretty bad, my body hurts and my chest is really aching." Xanthous said weakly. "stay here I'm gonna get the thermometer." Elrik quickly dashed into the bathroom and retrieved the device. He came back inside the room, and found Xanthous having another coughing fit. "oh babe, hang on it's okay." Elrik rushed to his side and held him until the fit was over. "it's okay babe, I know it hurts, just try to breathe." Once he was finished Xanthous was utterly exhausted, and hung onto Elrik for dear life. "that really hurts, I think I pulled a muscle in my side." Xanthous said trembling from the pain. "It's gonna be okay baby, maybe medicine will help. I'll be right back, just lay down and try to rest." When Elrik returned Xanthous was curled up in a ball with a pained expression on his face. Elrik walked over and ran a hand over his hair. "I'm sorry you're so sick baby, I hope this medicine helps." Xanthous rose from his position, and took the medicine. "thanks babe, you're the best." Xanthous said snuggling under the covers again. Elrik climbed in next to him, and pulled him onto his chest. "try to get some sleep baby, I'll be here when you wake up." Xanthous allowed his eyes to close, and was soon fast asleep in Elrik's arms. About an hour later Xanthous jolted awake coughing his lungs out, Elrik was right there trying to calm him down while the fit happened. "This hurts so much, my sides are so sore." Xanthous said feeling weak and miserable. Elrik wished there was more he could do to help him, and he noticed how Xanthous had a hard time breathing after he coughed so hard. He didn't know what was wrong. Xanthous let out one last cough, and that's when he saw it blood! "oh my gosh, okay Xan we need to get you to the hospital." Elrik scooped Xanthous into his arms and carried him out to the carriage, as they drove to the hospital Xanthous was coughing so much Elrik was scared he was going to stop breathing. "Xan, it's okay can you breathe?" He asked him after a horrible coughing fit. "I think so, it hurts Elrik." Then Xanthous started to cry. "oh baby, I know it hurts. I wish you weren't sick, but don't worry we'll be at the hospital soon. They'll help you." Elrik said holding the poor sick boy in his arms. "please don't leave me, I'm scared." Xanthous said shaking from the force of his sobs. "I know you're scared baby, and don't worry I'll be with you every step of the way." Xanthous latched onto Elrik squeezing his hand as his sides were hurting him really bad. "That's it honey, just squeeze my hand. We're almost there." They finally arrived at the hospital, and Xanthous was able to get checked in right away. They were waiting for the doctor, Xanthous still holding Elrik's hand. "The doctor should be here soon babe, how are you feeling?" Elrik asked him rubbing his thumb over the palm of his hand. "I feel sick, and I'm in pain, and I just want to go home." Elrik's heart broke for the boy he loved, he crawled next to him on the hospital bed and pulled him close. "I'm sorry you feel so bad babe, but the doctor is going to help you feel better." Xanthous nodded his head, and hugged Elrik tightly. The doctor came in a few minutes later. She was a small women, with her brown hair tied up in a bun. "hi there, what's  your name young man?" She said to Xanthous, with a big smile. She seemed nice enough so Xanthous responded to her. "I'm Xanthous and this is my boyfriend Elrik." He said pointing to Elrik who was standing beside him. "It's nice to meet you both, my name is Daisy and I'll be taking care of you today. What seems to be the problem?" "I've been coughing really hard since this morning, and the last couple of times it's happened there's been blood, my chest and sides ache really badly as well." Xanthous said as another coughing fit ripped through him. "it's okay sugar, we're gonna help you feel better. I'd like to get you up to X-rays to see what's going on with your lungs." They took Xanthous up to X-rays, where he unfortunately had to be separated from Elrik. But he promised he would be there when they brought him back. When Xanthous returned from X-rays he looked really out of it, and was holding his sides in pain. They got him back on the bed, and Elrik took his hand again. "what happened? Is he okay?" Elrik asked Daisy concern written all over his face. "after we took the pictures of his lungs, he started coughing really hard and more blood came up. He was calling out for you, and now he's more pain." Daisy said looking at her clipboard. "I'm gonna hook him up to some oxygen, to help with his breathing." She said then set to work. Once the oxygen was in place Xanthous's X-rays came back. "okay Xanthous it looks like you have a pretty severe case of pneumonia." The boys were shocked! But it explained why Xanthous was so sick. "but don't worry, with a little rest and some antibiotics you should be feeling better." Xanthous was discharged, and given antibiotics to help with the pneumonia. Once they were back home, Xanthous went straight to bed. Elrik gave him his pill, and laid down next to him gently messaging his ribs as his sides were still hurting him. "That feels good babe, thank you for helping me today. I love you so much." Xanthous said feeling better already. "I'd do anything for you babe, you mean the world to me. I love you so much too. You should get some sleep now, it's been a long day." Xanthous snuggled into Elrik's arms and gently fell asleep. He really felt safe with him. Elrik gave him a soft kiss on the head, and he too drifted off into a contented sleep. hoping Xanthous feels better soon. 

Aww! Elrik and Xanthous are just so cute! Also Xanthous does wake up feeling better, and after taking his medicine for a few days, he's back to normal.
