Siren
Siren
(A Spider-Man One-Shot)
Peter P.O.V.
I was scanning my tracking device, and I came across someone named Siren. Apparently she's a very powerful superhuman, who's powers derive from music. It says, her voice is so high pitched she can shatter windows in one note. I want to find out more about her, maybe I could help her to control her abilities. I suited up, and swung towards where it says she should be. I found a young woman sitting alone on a park bench, I wonderd if it was her. I sat down next to her, and she startled upon seeing me. "Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." I said, apologectically. She nodded, slowly. "I'm Spider-Man." I said, holding out my hand. "I know, who you are, I'm actually a big fan!" The woman said, with the biggest smile as she excitedly shook my hand. "Well, it's nice to meet my fans. What's your name?" I asked her. "I'm Lyric Anderson." She said, and for a split second I thought I saw her eyes shift to red. "What are you doing here all by yourself?" I asked Lyric. "I like to come here to think sometimes, and to sing." She said, and this time. I did see her eyes change to red. "Oh you're a singer?" I said. "Yeah! Would you like to hear?" She asked me. Before I could answer, Lyric opened a song on her phone. I saw something totally crazy happen! The music flowed out of the speaker, and into Lyric's veins. As soon, as she felt the melody. The song that was playing, came out of her mouth! It was the most hauntingly beautiful sound I ever heard! She opened her eyes, and they were blood red! I felt myself being drawn to her voice, and it put me in a bit of a trance. That was until she let out the highest pitch sound I ever heard, and hit the ground from the force of it. The sound waves, stretched all the way across the park. When she was done, and I could hear again, I stood up with my mouth open. "That was the coolest and craziest thing I have ever witnessed!" I said, still in shock. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to do that." Lyric said, sadly as she looked at her shoes. "Hey, it's alright." I reassured her. "I can't control it! I start singing, and the next thing I know I'm cracking windows and blowing people off their feet!" Lyric said, as tears formed in her eyes. "Lyric, this is nothing to be ashamed of." I said, softly. "You have an incredible gift!" I told her. "I can help you learn to control it, if you want?" I offered. "Do you know anything about this kind of power?" She asked. "Well, no. But I might know somebody who does." I said, smiling under my mask. I swung Lyric all the way to Dr Banner's classroom. Luckily, class was done for the day. The room was empty, and Dr. Banner was busy grading papers. "Excuse me, Dr. Banner?" I asked him. "Oh, Spider-Man, to which do I owe this pleasure?" He asked, looking up from his desk. "I have someone here, who could use your help." I said, gently leading Lyric towards him. "This is Lyric Anderson, she has an incredible ability, that she needs help controlling." I told him. "It's nice to meet you." Dr. Banner said, as they shook hands. "You too." Lyric smiled, shyly. "So, what's this power of yours?" He asked her. Lyric explained everything to Dr. Banner, from how she first discoverd her powers and everything about her life up to today. "Interesting, it seems you have a psychic connection to music." Banner said. "Really? I've always loved music growing up." Lyric admitted. "If you're psychically connected to music, that might be why you're having trouble controlling your abilities." He continued. "What are you usually thinking about, when the music enters your veins?" Banner asked. "I think about things and people I love." Lyric said. "hmm, that's a good thing. But I think that might be your problem." Banner said, thinking about it. Lyric and I looked at him, like he had said something odd. "What I mean is, when you think about things that make you happy, the seratonin in your brain goes haywire and that's why you lose control." He said. "Ohhhh, I get it." Lyrics said, nodding. "So you're saying, if she thinks about things that make her angry, or scare her, she could have better control?" I asked the professor. "I believe she can." Banner said, with confidence. "Do you want to try it?" He asked Lyric. She nodded. "Wait, let's test it somewhere more open." Banner said, as he led us to the university basement. "Here, this should be a safe spot." He said. Lyric pulled up a song, and immediately the music entered her blood stream. Her eyes were blood red again. "Remeber Lyric, think about what makes you angry." Banner said. Lyric began to sing, but it was different this time. Her voice still sounded beautiful, and still had that haunting element to it. But there was also this lower range, I didn't feel myself being drawn to it. She was getting close, to hitting the high note. Her pitch increased in volume, only the sound wave that came out, blew across the room in one direction. Then, Lyric's eyes returned to normal, and she stopped the music on her own. "That was amazing!" I said, astonished. "You did great kid!" Dr. Banner said. Lyric smiled, she was so proud of herself. "Oh my gosh you're right!" She said. "I can do this!" she exclaimed. Lyric invited me back to her apartment, to hang out. She wanted to make me dinner to thank me for helping her. I happily accepted. "Well, this is my place." She said, showing me around. I could tell, Lyric was a very creative person. And it was clear music was very important to her, she had band posters on the walls, and instrument decor. She also had some franchise characters, and some posters of me. She really was a fan. "You have a nice place." I said, as she invited me to sit down at her little kitchen island. "Thank you, it's not much but I like it." She said, plating up the food. "I hope you like pasta, with tomato soup." She said, as she served it. "I do! Thank you." I said, taking a bite. "So, you don't take the mask off at all?" She asked me. "Yeah, it keeps my idenity safe." I said, as we ate together. "I understand." She said. "Something happened to me, where my identity was revealed to the world. But then a spell made everyone forget, so now I'm protecting my idenity." I told her, taking another bite of soup. "This is really good by the way." I mentioned. "Thank you." She said, with a smile. "And I get wanting to protect your idenity." She said. "Thank you so much, for helping me learn to control my powers. I appreicate it more than words." Lyric told me. I told her, that she's welcome and it's what I do. "Ever since I found out I had these powers, I thought I was a freak. I was bullied in high school, I was destroying every piece of glass you can think of. I thought I would never be able to have any sense of normalcy." She admitted. "But now, that I know I can control it, and that I can help people with my powers, this is life changing." She said, excitedly. "Perhaps we could work together some time." I offered. "I would love that." She said. I couldn't stop thinking about Lyric after I left her place, she was so interesting. Her brown hair with blue streaks, the way her glasses fell down her face and she would push them back up. The way her eyes glowed red, when she used her powers. Siren was deffinetly a fitting name for her. I know we only just met, but I haven't felt this way about anyone since MJ. I know she's moved on, maybe I should too. I just don't think I'm ready for that yet. Before I left her place, she gave me her number, at the time is was because she wants to be friends. Maybe we could, and see where that takes us. When I got back home, I pulled up her number and sent her a text. It just said, "hey if you want to be friends, I would like that" not too long after that, she replied with "hey, I know I don't know who you really are. But whoever you are under the mask, I like who he is. And yeah, I do want to be friends :)" I smiled to myself, for the first time in forever. I'm not gonna do this alone anymore.
