Appendicitis
Appendicitis
(An Emily and Kieran one-shot)
Kieran P.O.V.
My last show of tour! It's been a wild ride, but I'm ready to have some down time with my wife. Only I must be nervous or something, because I woke up feeling queasy. There was also a sharp pain in my side, I took some ibuprofan and that seemed to stop it. But now it's back, and it's really starting to hurt. I think I might also have a fever, and I'm really queasy now. But I put on a smile, and picked up my guitar, and walked out on stage. "Hello everybody! Are you ready to rock?!" I yelled to the crowd. They all cheered, and that was my cue to start. About half way through my set, the pain in my side was so bad I doubled over onstage and fell to my knees. And that's when I threw up. I felt so horrible, I could barely stand up. "Excuse me everyone, but we're unfortunately gonna have to cancel the rest of the show. We apologize for the inconvience, and everybody will be refunded for their tickets. Thank you and goodnight." I heard Amanda say. I felt myself being carried off the stage, and laid down on the couch in my dressing room. "Kieran what happened?" Amanda asked concerned. "My side hurts, so much." I choked out. Then I heard someone else barge in. "Babe!" It was Emily. "Are you okay?" She said, coming to my side. "Not really babygirl." I said, wincing in pain. "What hurts?" She asked, grabbing my hand. "My side, it feels like it's on fire." I said, through gritted teeth. "Someone get the tour doctor!" Emily shouted. "It's okay babe, you're gonna be okay." She said, softly stroking my hair. The doctor showed up, and she got her supplies ready. "Hey Kieran, you're not feeling too good are you?" She asked. I shook my head, squeezing Emily's hand when another pain wave hit. "Let's see what we're dealing with here." She said. "Okay, Kieran, I'm gonna examine your abdomen. Can you lift up your shirt for me?" She asked. I carefully lifted my shirt, trying not to jostle my side. "Alright kiddo, you let me know when it hurts okay?" She said. I nodded. "Don't worry, you can squeeze my hand when it hurts." Emily whispered to me. I smiled gratefully. I let the doctor know I was ready, and she began her exam. It was painful throughout, everytime she pressed on my stomach I winced. But when she got to my lower right side, I screamed in pain and started sobbing. It hurt so bad. "Oh K, shh, shh. It's okay." Emily said, holding my head and rubbing my back. "Sorry honey, I can tell from your reaction that it's your right side that hurts the most." The doctor said. "I promise I won't touch it anymore, but I think we need to get you to the hospital." She said. I heard Amanda talking to 911, and an ambulance was gonna come soon. "Baby? What's wrong?" I asked Emily, I saw her crying. "I just hate seeing you in pain my love." She said through sobs. "I know, I hate seeing you in pain too." I replied. I gave her hand a squeeze, letting her know I was gonna be okay. Just then another wave of pain washed through my body, and yelled out again. "OW!" I said, holding my side agressively. "Don't worry babe, the ambulance will be here soon." Emily said, stroking my hair again. Eventually the ambulance showed up, and we were at the hospital in no time. "Hello Kieran, my name is Stacy, and I'll be your nurse this evening." The woman said, when she entered my hosptial room. "Hi." I said, through shaking breaths. "From what your tour doctor told me, she suspects that you might have appendicitis?" She asked. "Yeah." I breathed out. "Well, I'm gonna give you an exam, and then take an ultra sound to confirm, and I'll then bring the doctor in here to confirm for me, okay?" She said. I nodded. "Alright, if you could please lift your shirt for me, I'll begin the abdomen exam. I was hesitant, because the last time hurt so much I almost blacked out. But Emily gave me a reassuring smile, and held my hand again. "Okay, I'm ready." I said, bracing myself. "If at any point you need me to stop, just say so okay dear?" Stacy said, and I nodded. She began prodding my stomach, and it hurt but it was managable. Until she got to my side, and again I screamed in pain and cried, whimpering from how much it hurt. "Okay, that's all I need honey, I know you're not gonna like this but, we need to press on it one more time, with the ultra sound." Stacy said. I just cried, wanting this to be over. I felt someone crawl in next to me on the bed, and I looked up to see Emily. She wrapped her arms around me, and held me close. "I'm gonna give you something for the pain, before we do the ultra sound." Stacy said, ducking out for a minute. "My poor husband, I hate seeing you like this." Emly said, wiping away her own tears. "It feels so bad." I said, breathing rapidly. "I wish I could take this pain away from you." She said, kissing my forehead. "Ooh, you have a fever. I think your appendix is infected." She said. I nodded agreeing, it made the most sense. "Hey Kieran, I'm back with some pain meds and the ultra sound machine." Stacy said, setting everything up. She hooked me up with an IV line, and injected the pain meds into the tube. I did start to feel a little better after that. "And this is doctor Henry, he'll be here to confirm the ultra sound." Stacy said, to the gentleman next to her. "Hi Kieran, hopefully this ultra sound, will help us figure out if what you have is appendicitis." He said. I nodded. Emily carefully got off the bed, so they could do the test. But she never let go of my hand. "Okay, let's see, what we can see." Stacy said. "Now, this might be a little cold." Stacy said, squirting some blue stuff on my abdomen. "Okay, here we go." She said, putting the wand thing on where she put the blue stuff. I winced, it still hurt even with the medication. Especially when they got to the painful part, I couldn't help it I screamed. And tried to push the wand thing away, I wanted it to end. "It's okay kiddo, we're done. You did so well." Stacy said, as she moved to the screen. I was breathing heavily, and just holding my side hoping it would stop. "Well Kieran, I can confidently confirm that you have acute appendicitis." Doctor Henry said. I just nodded. "Your appendix is very infected and inflamed, we're gonna have to remove it." He said. I felt Emily squeeze my hand, I think she was scared. I couldn't blame her, I was scared to. "It's a very simple opperation, and I promise you're in good hands." Doctor Henry said. I looked at Emily, and she gave me a little smile. "I'll be okay baby, I promise." I said, kissing her hand. "Okay, I'll be here when you wake up. I promise. I love you." She said, kissing my forehead. "I love you too my angel." I told her, kissing her hand again. The nurses prepped me for surgery, and I was wheeled into the operating room. "Count backwards from ten, and everything will be okay when you wake up." Stacy said, as she placed a mask on my face. The next thing I knew, I was opening my bleary eyes, and saw my beautiful wife standing over me. "Hey babe!" She said, smiling. "Hmm, hey baby." I said, still a little out of it. "The doctor said, the surgery went well, and you can go home in a couple of days!" She said, kissing me. "That's good." I said. "Are you in any pain?" She asked me. "Just a dull ache, but it's managable." I said, yawning. "Can you come cuddle me baby?" I asked her. "I would love to." She said, carefully climbing in next to me. "There we go, this is perfect." I said, holding my amazing wife close to me. "It really is." She agreed.
