Fallen Angel pt. 2

 Fallen Angel pt. 2

"This might be more challenging than I expected." I thought out loud to myself. Coltrane doesn't have a love interest already, so I guess I'll have to help him find one! "He is really cute though." I said dreamily. "Oh get real Deadly, you know you're not allowed to date humans." I argued with myself. It was true, dark angels aren't allowed to date humans, we're only allowed to date other angels. Still I couldn't stop thinking about Coltrane, he was so cool, a little shy and depressed but I see a spark of life in there. "You're here to do your job, tomorrow you're going to help him find a girl." I told myself. Before I went to sleep, I shook out my wings. They get cramped from being hidden all day. "Ah, that's better." I said, as I settled into bed. "Goodnight mom, dad, Cerberus, and Dagger." I whispered, and I slowly drifted off to sleep. The next morning, I quickly got dressed, did my makeup, made sure my wings were securely hidden, and I went to knock on Coltrane's door. "Hello! Time to get up sleepy head!" I said to him. He opened the door, and his messy bed hair was so cute! But I composed myself, and said "Good morning! Would you mind, if I made us breakfast? I know this absouletly delicious pancake recipe!" I offered. "That's really sweet of you, but I'm not that hungry." He said. "Okay, well I guess I'll see you downstairs." I said, waving as I walked down them. I finished making the pancakes, and I saw Coltrane enter the kitchen. "Oh, hey" I said, waving. He gave a little wave back, and sat down across from me. "I smelled the food, and I realized, that I am actually hungry. These look really good." He said, nodding to the food. "Please, help yourself." I said, with a smile. While we ate, I couldn't stop staring at him. Coltrane was so beautiful, and he was so talented. I loved his look, and I like that he's a little shy. I was suddenly picturing myself holding his hand, and taking walks, and kissing under the stars. But then I shook my head, snapping myself back to reality. "Stay focused Deadly, you're here to help him find love. Not fall in love yourself." I thought to myself. "Any plans today?" I asked him, while cleaning up. "Not really, just my job at the music store, then grocery shopping then the woods." He said, unenthusiastically. "You work at a music store?! That's so cool! Maybe I could swing by after my shift." I suggested. "If you want to." He said, looking down. We left for our jobs, but on my way to the coffee shop, I couldn't get Coltrane off my mind. "He seems so down on himself, maybe before I try to find him a girlfriend, I should help him become more confident in himself." I thought.

Well here I am, at my shift at the music store. It's not that it's a bad place to work, I just dread coming in everyday. It's a bit of a slow morning, so I'm taking inventory of the CD stock. Then she walks in, the beautiful girl Lyric I found in the woods, and who's now living with me. "Hey!" She says, waving. I give her a little wave back, as she walks up to me. "How's your shift going?" She asks, as she sits down on a stool. "It's a little slow this morning, but it's okay I guess." I say, writing down how many Three Days Grace CDs we have. "No way, I love this album!" Lyric says, excitedly. She held up a copy of One X by Three Days Grace. "Really? Me too." I say, a little surprised. "I don't have this one in my collection, I'm gonna go pay for this real quick." She said, going up to the front desk where Jimmy was. I peaked over at her, she was so stunning. I felt this fluttering feeling in my chest. "Who are you kidding? Someone like her, would never want to be with a loser like me." I thought to myself, then went back to my work. "Can I ask you something?" I said to Lyric. She nodded at me, flashing that pretty smile of hers. "Why are you so nice to me?" She looked taken aback at that. "I believe everyone deserves kindness, no matter what they've been through, or what they're currently going through." She  said. I was so in awe of this girl. "You know, you're unlike any girl I've ever met Lyric. You have something special about you." I said. I swear I saw her blush, it was so cute. "Awe thanks, you're sweet." She said, playfully pushing my shoulder. I could have fainted right there. "Now, let me ask you a question." She said. "Why are you so sad?" She asked, with some concern to her tone. "It's a long story." I said. She put a hand on my shoulder, and I looked at her. "I don't mind listening." She said, staring at me with those gorgeous grey eyes of hers. "Well, okay. But after work." I said, continuing with inventory. After work, Lyric came with me to the grocery store. That was actually really fun, she made shopping enjoyable. Which is really rare for me, since I always dread shopping. It was nice to have someone with me. Now we're back in the clearing in the woods. "Okay, here's my story." I begin. "I wasn't always this depressed, I was actually a very happy child. My mom and dad raised me and my younger brother in a house full of love, we were a relatively normal family. But when I was about 17, I had my first girlfriend." I said, and I looked away. Lyric reached her hand out, and comfortingly placed in mine. She squeezed it gently. That gave me the courage to continue. "We were together for three months, until I found out that she only asked me out as a joke." I said, tears forming in my eyes. "It all went downhill from there, girl after girl it always ended in disaster." I said. "My last relationship was one of the worse ones, she was very verbally abusive towards me. So after we broke up, I made a vow that I would never fall in love again." I said, full on sobbing now. I don't usually cry in front of people, but I felt safe with Lyric, so I let it all out. And to my surprise, she pulled me closer to her and just held me as I cried. "You poor soul, you've been through so much." She said, as she gently rubbed my back. "Listen to me, I see so much good in you. And I still see this spark of life in you, you just need to believe that you are enough." She said, wiping the tears from my face. "You're so sweet." I said, sniffling. "So are you, I've heard what's in your heart from your music, you have a beautiful soul." She said, squeezing my hand again. Her touch was so gentle, so warm. She was like a ray of sunshine in this dark, bleak world. "Thank you for listening to me." I said. "Of course." She said, giving my hand one last squeeze. Although, I really didn't want to let go. "How about we just hang out and listen to music for the rest of the afternoon?" Lyric suggested. I nodded, and for the first time in years I smiled.

I didn't expect to get Coltrane to open up so fast, but I'm glad I did. He's such a sweet soul, and he's been through so much. "Plus he's really handsome, and adorable." I thought. There goes my head again, getting ideas I can't act on. If only it wasn't against the rules to date a human, I would love to be with Coltrane. But alas, it's just a fantasy. I even got him to smile! Probably his first smile in years! And he has such a cute smile! I really need to stop thinking like this, I walk back to the apartment with Coltrane. When we get back home, he said he wanted to be alone for awhile. I respected his wishes, and went to my room. When I knew the coast was clear, I freed my wings and pulled up my travel portal. I use it to talk to people in the angel realm. I called my parents. "Hello sweetie! How's it going?" My mom said. "Hey mom, it's going good I think." I said to her. "That's great!" She said, with a smile. "Cerberus wants to say hi, come here boy." She said, calling him. "Aww hey boy, I miss you!" I waved to Cerberus. He licked the screen, he's such a playful little guy. "Mom, you met dad when you lived on Earth right?" I asked her. "I did, it was a day I will never forget." My mom said, with a dreamy look in her eye. "Well, there's someone I think I might like, but I'm not supposed to date this person. What should I do?" I asked her. "Deadly, are you talking about falling for a human?" She asked. "Yeah mom, I think I really like my assignment." I told her. "Honey, you know you can't date a human. It would never work! You're from two different worlds!" Mom said. "You and dad were from two different worlds, and you made it work!" I reminded her. "Yeah but I'm a goddess, I'm not a human." She said. "Deadly, you know how this works. Angels get assigned humans, they help them. Then once that person finds love, you move on to the next human." Mom said, gently. "I know, I know." I said. "You have such a big heart sweetie, it's what makes you a great angel." She said with a smile. "I'll talk to you later mom, tell dad I said hi." I said. "Okay, love you honey!" Mom said before she signed off. "Love you too mom." I said, before I also put my travel portal away. "What am I gonna do?" I whispered to myself.

Getting to know Lyric these past few weeks, has been an interesting experience. I would say we're good friends now, which feels really good. I don't have any friends, but I do now! There's something special about her, and I feel like I'm catching feelings. I haven't told her yet, because I don't want to ruin what we have. But it's getting harder and harder to keep these feelings to myself. Luckily I have my songwriting to help me with that. I actually wrote a new song for her, I really want her to hear it. Maybe I'll get the courage to play it for her soon. She's been helping me so much, any one who can get me to smile and laugh is a really amazing person in my book. "Hey, can I get a double whip mocha latte please?" I asked at the coffee shop, Lyric was working the front desk today. "Why, of course!" She said giggling. Gosh her giggle was so cute. "Do you want to maybe, go for a walk after your shift today?" I asked. "That sounds lovely, sure!" She said, placing her hand on mine. I can't explain it, but when she holds my hand I feel this spark. I feel like we were meant to meet. While we were on our walk, Lyric stopped dead in her tracks. Almost like she had seen a ghost, I asked her. "What's wrong?" Then she ducked into a nearby bush.

I couldn't believe this was happening! On my walk with Cotrane, across the way I saw someone from my school days I thought I would never see again, it was my old classmate Harper. Harper was a "good angel" and I use finger quotes to say that because those angels aren't actually that great. I mean sure, they are also sent to earth to help humans, but their job is to keep them out of harms way. They are essentially guardian angels, but they hate dark angels guts. Harper and I used to fight all the time in school, she despised me. I had nothing but common curtesy for her and all the other angels, but she didn't like me, or any of the other dark angels. The light angels have white featherd wings, and halos in the angel realm. But like us dark angels, they hide those when they're on earth. Of course Coltrane doesn't know any of this, and he must think I look crazy right now. But I couldn't let Harper see me. "Hey, are you alright?" Coltrane asked me. "That girl up ahead, I can't let her see me." I told him. "Why not?" He asked. "Let's just say, she doesn't like me very much." I said, and he caught on, and hid with me until she walked by. And there she was, little miss perfect Harper. With her long curly hair, perfect tan skin, and rich girl attitude. Eventually she passed by us, and we crawled out of the bushes. "Sorry about that, I really didn't wanna have to deal with her." I said, as we continued our walk. "I get it, I would probably do the same thing." He said. Gosh he was so understanding! There I go swooning again, I'm never gonna get these feelings under control. If only there was a way we could be together, because I can't help but fall for this wonderful, deep, emotional, smart, funny, sweet guy.
