The Letter

 The Letter

So this one is going to be angst filled, I want to work on my angst writing skills, so I hope it's okay.

It was a rough year for young couple Nick and Charlie. During the second half of year 12 for Nick and year 11 for Charlie, Nick was having some pain in his chest. It was managable for the first few weeks he had it, but one day at rugby Nick collasped on the ground struggling to breathe. It scared the heck out of Charlie, and Nick was immediatly rushed to the hospital. They ran a bunch of tests, and found a large tumor on Nick's left lung. He needed a lung transplant, but before they could do that, Nick would have to have chemo, to shrink the tumor. It was a painful, and tearful process for not only to the two lovers, but also their families and friends. Nick's mum took the news the hardest, she cried hysterically the night she found out. Charlie was always there by his boyfriend's side, through every treatment, every painful moment, and every tear. "Char I'm so scared." Nick said to him one night when it was just the two of them. "I know baby, I am too. But you're strong, you're going to be beat this." Charlie said kissing Nick's hand. The days where Nick was allowed to come home for a little bit, him and Charlie cuddled on the couch having some tea, and helping Nick take his meds. This whole process was soul crushing, Charlie kept watching the love of his life get weaker, and weaker. One day when Nick was back in the hospital, and he looked over at Charlie, Charlie's heart ached. Nick was so pale, and thin, and had dark spots under his eyes. Charlie broke down that day, he cried into the sheets of the hospital bed. Nick very weakly stroked Charlie's hair. "Char, listen to me. You need to hear this." Nick said with his voice barely above a whisper. "If I don't make it through this, I want you to move on. I want you to find someone to make you happy." "I could never find someone else like that, Nick you are it for me, you're my person. I love you so much, and I will always love you." Nick pulled Charlie into his chest, and now they were both crying. "I love you too Char, and I want to marry you some day. But I don't even know if I'm gonna make it." It's been four months since they had that conversation, and now Nick was doing much better, they were able to give him his new lung, he still had to take it easy, but he was alive. That was all that mattered to Charlie, and their friends and families. On the day of Nick's final release from the hospital, the boys went over to Charlie's house to celebrate. Now here they are, Nick at university, and Charlie is visiting him in the dorms for the weekend. While Nick was going to the bathroom, Charlie was looking for a tissue in the nightstand next to the bed, when he came across this letter. It had his name on it written in Nick's hand writing. Charlie sat on the bed, and opened the letter.

Dear Charlie, if you're reading this it means I couldn't beat this illness and I'm gone. But I just wanted you to know, that meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me. Yes I know things haven't always been easy for us, and we had some bumps in the road. But I wouldn't trade those memories I made with you for anything. From our first kiss, I knew I liked you in more than a friend way. But I didn't understand why, and after all my time researching, and trying to figure out who I was, I finally understood what my feelings for you meant. I love hugging you, kissing you, being with you. I love watching movies with you, and hanging out with our friends and families. The walks we take with Nellie, Henry cuddling up next to you. I will always treasure the love we shared together, I'm gonna miss you so much Char, thank you for the wonderful life. I love you with all my heart. P.S. Take care of Nellie and Henry for me.

After he finished reading the letter, Charlie was full on sobbing. When Nick came out of the bathroom, and saw his boyfriend in distress, Nick ran over and hugged him so tight we was afraid to let go. "Char what's wrong?" Nick said, wiping the tears from his eyes. "I-I found your letter." Nick looked down at what Charlie was holding, and understood the tears. "oh Charlie, I never wanted you to find this, back when I was still sick I thought I wasn't going to make it. I was in so much pain, and felt so weak. But I didn't want to leave without telling you how much you mean to me. So I wrote you this letter." The two of them just stayed wrapped in each other's arms, grateful that they were still there together. "I'm so happy you're still here with me, I love you so much." Charlie said and kissed Nick with as much passion as he could give. "I love you so much too Char, I will always be grateful that I'm still here with you." They will always be Nick and Charlie, nothing will ever change that.

The End
